Frequently asked questions

What is the difference?

2D Ultrasound

  • What It Is: This is the most basic form of ultrasound imaging. It produces a flat, two-dimensional image of the area being examined.

  • How It Works: It captures a cross-sectional view of the body, creating images like slices or snapshots.

3D Ultrasound

  • What It Is: This provides a three-dimensional image of the area being examined.

  • How It Works: By combining multiple 2D images taken from different angles, 3D ultrasound creates a more detailed and realistic representation of the structure. It’s like creating a 3D model from a series of 2D images.

4D Ultrasound

  • What It Is: This adds the element of time to 3D imaging, creating a real-time, moving 3D image.

  • How It Works: It captures a series of 3D images in quick succession, allowing for live, dynamic viewing of the structure in motion.

HD Live Ultrasound

  • What It Is: A more advanced form of 4D ultrasound, providing higher resolution and more detailed images.

  • How It Works: HD Live technology enhances the quality of the 3D and 4D images, making them clearer and lifelike. It uses sophisticated imaging techniques to reduce artifacts and improve the visualization of fine details.

Do I need to have a full bladder for my ultrasound?

How long should I hold it?

Yes, we do require that all moms have at least a semi-full bladder for their Gender Determination appointment. This helps hold the baby outside your pelvis and makes it easier to visualize. It is best to empty your bladder no less than 15 minutes prior to your Gender Determination appointment time. For example, if your appointment is at 2:00pm, then you can use the restroom at 1:45pm, but not after that. If you need to arrive 15 minutes early to empty your bladder, or stop somewhere on your way to empty, please do so. It’s always best to begin your ultrasound with a full bladder, and the technician will let you empty it if she sees it’s necessary.

Can I bring my family and friends? What about kids?

Of course! You are welcome to share this wonderful experience with your family and friends. At HLO, we strive to create a comfortable atmosphere for our clients. Our ultrasound rooms can comfortably accommodate up to 6 people. We are child-friendly and understand that kids may feel scared in the dark ultrasound room or see their mother on the bed. If your child is upset, they are welcome to stay in the room with you, or we have a "kids corner" in the waiting room where someone can stay with them and play.

Will my insurance cover my 3D ultrasound?

Unfortunately, insurance does not currently cover the cost of 3D or 4D ultrasound. 3D/4D ultrasound is an elective service and should not replace your physician's diagnostic ultrasound. You will need to make payment at the time of service.
